“I‘ve been playing with Jeremy Carlstedt for close to 20 years; he‘s family, one of my closest friends, and one of New York‘s most imaginative drummers. It is no secret he is a protegé of the late drum master Chico Hamilton having spent 10 years of recording and touring with him. Jeremy & I have recorded, toured, and played together more times than I can remember over the years, and we’ve always had a special chemistry. We've worked on many projects together including our band, Orion Tango, which is currently finishing our third album.

Convergence, is our new duo album, recorded live last year in Greenpoint, Brooklyn (at my pop-up art exhibition & music residency at Areté). Our 40-minute set contains all the magic and imaginative musical dialogue that I am talking about. I love playing with Jeremy (in any context), but our duo conversations are very special ones. We released Moonstone, a few years back on 1k—our first duo recording, and I guested on his album, Stars Are Far, where we improvise two duo pieces together amongst the quartet readings of his songs. Convergence is a return and evolution of our unique improvisational language. In the directness of our improvisations we spur each other to greater heights, we have fun, we listen, we dive off metaphorical cliffs, and somewhere along the way manage to express a wide range of emotional states, and sounds evoking the world we live in—ecological, social, political, historical, and spiritual. Each piece on this record is a thrilling sonic and rhythmic journey, and leaves me with a sense of hope, wonder, and inspiration on the road to our collective planetary future. I am so happy this exciting concert was documented and is now available to share with you. We hope you enjoy. Thank you for your support.” Tim Motzer

"Convergence' by Tim Motzer and percussionist Jeremy Carlstedt features four pieces recorded live in Brooklyn in 2018. It's a improv-based effort that captures this duo's multi-year ESP-like connection in full flight. Mercurial, crunchy, ambient, and engaging." Anil Prasad, Innerviews
